Saw this sight this morning. The crowd was here since 7pm and I could hear celebrations all the way until midnight. This morning, there was an unbelievable amount of litter left all around this beautiful park at Punggol.

Learning Chinese has become too difficult for kids today, and that’s not okay
Is it just too hard for kids to learn Chinese in Singapore schools? This mum-of-two explains why she thinks the answer might be yes – and why that bodes ill for young Singaporeans trying to develop a love for their mother tongue.

25 and stepping into an unknown job market, where money is so unstable, housing is so expensive, and transport fares are increasing whenever the govt want to... I served ns as combat fit, went through all the shit with my bros in a fairly nice but shag unit. We suffered but loved our time there. I felt proud during my service, but now the realisation hit that we served a country who's leadership doesn't love its citizens first, doesnt appreciate singaporeans. Instead they prefer foreigners more than locals, love the rich from other countries, while its own citizens suffer doing grab deliveries, working overtime, staying in cheap housing. EH ITS OKAY come enjoy some gst vouchers, enjoy some CDC vouchers. But how can we enjoy the loss of identity, where everyday I go work, I dont even hear singlish most of the time now. Singapore may be a country I call home, where the rivers flows or wtv... but I no longer feel proud of calling myself a singaporean, and its diving deeper into a depressing and sad state...

I’m in a really difficult situation and I don’t know what to do. I found out I’m pregnant, and my ex is the father. When I told him, he blocked me on all platforms — phones, social media, everything. I currently have no way to contact him. I’ve never experienced anything like this, and I’m feeling lost, scared, and overwhelmed. What are my options in Singapore, legally, emotionally, or practically, when someone refuses to respond like this? I’d appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or direction. Thank you.
Soon to be 49. Have a one year old kid. Living in a 3 room HDB but was converted to a studio before I became a father. Not baby friendly and kid needs space to run. No debt on this flat. Should I apply for a BTO? I’m selling an investment property in Nov which means the earliest I can BTO is mid 2028 which I’ll be 52. Key collection at 55. I understand that’s when you start paying the installment or have I been misinformed? I’d be happy to have a longer tenure and start paying earlier if it’s upon successful BTO. I have enough in my CPF to pay down payment for a 550k 4 rm. Monthly CPF contribution is about $2700. AI says I’ll have about 600k in CPF when I hit 55. Would you rather renovate or BTO if you were already 55. Also if BTO pay the entire cost or take a HDB loan and invest the CPF? Thanks and hope not to get clobbered here.

Am not the high flyers out here with 100k++ annual income. I am wondering if i can achieve a million with some high growth stocks / ETFs and prudent spending. I do not own a car, HDB BTO, frugal habits e.g do not eat breakfast buying 2nd hand things. Can my habits and investment get me to a million or i am just being delulu.

Recently I’ve (29m) been going down the rabbit hole of YouTube videos around the following philosophies: 1. Die with zero 2. Ideal end state exercise 3. Regret minimalization framework I’ve had these ideas for a couple of years, and hence have been working towards FI. Here is my current state: 1. 700k investment portfolio 2. Tech job with 200k TC (only got it this year) 3. Good work life balance, can take leaves whenever, colleagues and customers are nice 4. Manager is non-existent because I’m exceeding my KPIs so he doesn’t bother me 5. Single, no kids and parents are healthy 6. No mortgage, no car, no debt 7. Healthy body, exercise regularly 8. Semi-active in options selling and have been profitable for the past 2 years So given the above, I’m in a little bit of a dilemma. I have no reason to leave my current job, but I can’t help but feel I’ll only be in this phase of my life once, before I consider starting a family or my health deteriorates. I’m seriously considering of doing something memorable for my 30s and create memories that will last the rest of my life. My plan if I quit is to stay in different parts of SEA (low cost) to do dive courses, motorbike loops, MMA classes, and maybe learn more skills, all while documenting my journey maybe by vlog. Perhaps meet an SO, eventually live abroad, those are on the table. But nothing concrete yet. Love to hear what others would do in my stead. Welcome all ideas, feedback or advice!

I think life in Singapore is not as tough as many people complain about. The first complaint that we hear all the time is about the stress or lack of work life balance. Many have said this is the price we pay for our economic success. I think this is only true in the past. Nowadays, I believe work life balance in Singapore is much better than in many countries. In China, they have 996 culture. I personally work with people based in China, India and some other Asian countries. I can tell you wlb is way worse there. In those countries, there is no boundary. If the boss asks you to work on Sunday, you do it. Bosses there can text you anytime of the day, during weekend, during your vacation, etc. My colleagues there usually work late into the nights as well. Maybe life was easier in those developing countries in the past, but no more. Nowadays they work longer hours than us, for a fraction of the pay. The next complaint is about cost of living. Sure things in SG are expensive. But they are not expensive in relation to our salaries! Just think about how many percentage of your salary goes to the basic needs like food. In developing countries it's way higher. If you travel to Western Europe, things are usually more expensive. But their take-home pay is less than ours (yes, you heard that right. Our take-home pay is higher than the Germans, the French, the Brits, etc. on average). One crucial part of CoL is housing. Here in SG, gov gives young couples the chance to own a home. In most other countries, there is no such thing. Unless they make very good money or receive support from parents, young couples in other countries can never buy a house of their own. Just look up house price in Seoul or Beijing vs average take home pay, you'll see. I think SG has been doing well these few years and people get to travel to see the world. They go to countries like Taiwan, Korea, Japan, etc. and see things are cheaper there. But they are not cheap compared to the salaries there. Salaries in those countries are pathetic compared to SG. Last but not least, people often complain about competition here. This starts from school. But wait a moment, if you compare the number of people in 1 cohort and the intake from all the big 4 unies here (nus, ntu, smu, sutd), you'll realize it's not that hard for a JC student to make it to a decent uni here. Now if you look at China and their gaokao (uni entrance exam). You'll see the competition there is way way more fierce. The next competition is for job, which I think is not as fierce as it is in many other countries. Just look up the number of youth not in employment, education or trainings (NEET) in Singapore vs like Korea, China or some European countries, relative to the population. You'll see life is even tougher there. All in all, I believe life in SG is not as tough as many people make it out to be. It is objectively better than many developing AND developed countries. Maybe it is the sterility of life here that makes it feel subjectively worse?
