Hi all, I’m in tech and lucky enough to receive 2 offers. Offer 1: Public sector, annual base salary around 80k but TC likely to hit 100k with bonus which I heard >3 months is quite common. There’s a significant sign on bonus as well Offer 2: F500, annual base salary around 70k with less than 10k stock per year and bonus capped at 3 months I know the long term prospects of the private sector are a higher ceiling and more technical growth, and that’s probably why public sector is trying to offer more upfront. In this economy and market, the stability is tempting as well and the higher amount in earlier years can be invested as well. Would love to hear opinions on which you guys would take and why.

Asking for one of my nephews who will be taking his o levels next year. I understand that sectors like tech, finance, and services are currently facing a slowdown, with fewer job openings and more contract roles instead of permanent positions. However, I'm curious about other industries such as healthcare and the built environment (like facilities management). I heard from people working in those areas that it's actually challenging to find manpower. like to hear your thoughts especially from those in sectors where the job market is still strong

Anyone went through the typical corporate 9-5 job for a while and realised it wasn’t for you? Was there a trigger? How did you come to realise that, why was it not for you? what steps did you take to break out of it and what are you doing now? Any regrets? P.S I’m not referring to those who have family businesses to fall back on etc, more of the middle income Singaporeans who decided to pursue a different career path when the realisation hits.

Hi everyone, I’ve been working for 4 years and have learned quite a bit along the way. I’d love to hear from all of you about your own experiences and lessons from work! What I’ve taken away from my experience so far: 1. If there are already red flags during the interviews and before getting hired. Run, don’t join thinking that they will improve or give them a “chance”. 2. Exposure and opportunities are more important than salary. (Of course salary cannot be below what you need to spend on 🥲) 3. You can make friends with your colleagues, but have boundaries and do not overshare. Do not give them the chance to tell on you to your boss. I’m sure there are plenty of other lessons I haven’t learned yet, so I’d love to hear what experiences or advice you all have picked up over your careers!

I know two friends who graduated in CS from NUS. They rejected a few offers because the pay was below $5k and the jobs didn’t come with the usual big tech perks like remote work or fancy pantry snacks... reasons that seemed pretty trivial. Yet, they keep complaining that the job market is very bad. Now they're saying they rather remain jobless than take up traineeships which to them, is an insult to the prestige of CS. To me, it looks more like they’re being picky rather than the market being tough. So is the job market really that bad, especially for fresh graduates?

The main problem is not enough companies want interns or fresh grads. Even at internship pay. our internship salary is a full time salary in the countries around the region. Quite a few companies are already slowly moving their operations out of sg or outsourcing them remotely as the cost of doing business here always it's benefits. But instead the solution is the govt wants these private companies to take our students but the govt will pay them instead with our taxpayers money? How strict will their measures we saw that it's not abused? Also how sustainable is this? Last time they had something like was covid so ok... Just temporary. Now leh? Is this just a blip too? Also is the govt admitting our "world class" education is not good enough now for a job? Do you need students already doing internship half year internships, some even doing half yeur internships every year during school holidays. Still not enough? Because we didn't have this problem before. Then what value is our uni courses? And our kids study so hard so long for what? We can no longer be dependant on sme, foreign companies and government agencies to create jobs for us. This has been said many times over the decades but the government needs to provide space and time fo local entrepreneur culture to develop and take hold without expecting short term returns. I am saying this having been in the media "boom" of the early 00s. The focus should be on entrepreneurship I schools and the ecosystem to have sustainable entrepreneurship mindset.(Not social enterprise taking advantage of hawkers) And the govt should not be the one leading the initiative. Let successful, retired entrepreneurs locally and from around the region spearhead it. And there shouldn't be a timeline or kpi every 10 years. But a permanent fixture of our culture. If we don't build our own entrepreneurship culture here we will always be at the mercy of foreign companies and their motivation is always profit. How many jobs can the government agencies create for local graduates? Even now a lot of this government jobs are contract basis with no full-time benefits.

At this point, I feel like giving up on my industry, UI/UX. It feels completely oversaturated, and companies only seem to be hiring for senior roles that no one can realistically fill. Not many of us have the years of experience they demand. Why won’t they give us a chance? We’re easier to train because we don’t have to unlearn old habits, and we’re motivated to prove ourselves and grow. I just don’t understand. I have a functioning portfolio website and internships on my belt. I’ve been applying, over and over, but it feels like shouting into the void. I just want to give up. Meanwhile, it seems like so many jobs are going to people from outside the country. It’s hard not to feel invisible. I’m exhausted.

How did you deal with it? Any tips for looking for the next job? Did you all make any adjustments to your lifestyle? How did you all feel during this period? I have been jobless since Feb. Been sending job applications since then. Either rejections or no replies. Feeling very desperate at the moment and feeling really sucks as I stay at home everyday. Now looking to give tuition classes to get some cash. Luckily I don't have a family yet else I will be really stressed. Any one here care to share their experience?

As mentioned in title: 5 years of relevant working experience, all in private education sector. Currently getting pay of $3.1K, plus handphone allowance of $80. Applying for govt-related/public sector jobs, asking for $3.5K. I am willing to negotiate down to $3.3K. Employment agency ask me to lower my salary. Not sure whether can trust or not... think maybe they are in hurry to get commission. I already went for 5 interviews and have received one job offer so far but the renumeration package can't be confirmed... been waiting for 3 weeks liao
