28 year-old unemployed for more than a year
At this point, I feel like giving up on my industry, UI/UX. It feels completely oversaturated, and companies only seem to be hiring for senior roles that no one can realistically fill. Not many of us have the years of experience they demand. Why won’t they give us a chance? We’re easier to train because we don’t have to unlearn old habits, and we’re motivated to prove ourselves and grow. I just don’t understand. I have a functioning portfolio website and internships on my belt. I’ve been applying, over and over, but it feels like shouting into the void. I just want to give up. Meanwhile, it seems like so many jobs are going to people from outside the country. It’s hard not to feel invisible. I’m exhausted.
