The other day I went to a mamak in a mature estate to pick up my Shopee order, and passed along some kids playing football at the void deck in spite of those signs, like I used to. Which was nice I guess.
Ya, until some Karen decides that the signs absolutely need to be enforced and complains
It's a perfectly legitimate complaint though, no? Imagine living on the 2nd or 3rd floor and work from home or resting from night shift or just being a retiree, the constant street soccer shouting, slamming of the ball against the walls makes life unbearable. Not to mention they could play on weekends too. There are threads here complaining about neighbours from hell blasting loud music which is pretty much the same thing. Its a good thing the government has been building badminton, basketball and street soccer courts away from flats.
There is really no good answer or solution to this. It all boils down to the acceptance level of the local residents. If this block doesn't work, try next block then I guess? Some courts are set up surrounded by blocks, so the sounds just reverberate up the blocks. I know of a futsal court surrounded by blocks at simei. The noise is dampened by some trees though
Back in the day, you know school is over because all over Singapore, school boys were kicking footballs at the void deck pillars and walls. boom... boom... boom... boom Soundtrack of the weekday afternoon in the 90s/00s
Times have changed sadly, I used to spend so much time running around with my pals, playing at the badminton courts and it was really the highlight of my day/weekend. Yes admittedly probably got a bit noisy haha but it was part of the fun and truly a core memory growing up. Kids are unfortunately glued to screens these days and it’s just strange seeing how that part of your childhood is no longer relevant - due to so many factors, including govt not “encouraging active play” as such.
