“Increased sense of job competition” This phrase seems very insidious. It's like they are implying fresh grads have the perception the job market is more competitive rather than the possibility or reality that the job market actually more competitive instead. Tbh even the data analysis is too simplistic. Just comparing the employment numbers in 2024 to 2025 is not significant, why isn't there a comparison of jobs on the market vs number of fresh grads seeking employment in 2024 vs 2025? The data is more meaningful that way.
He's insidious. The man has never answered hard questions directly. Often resorting to bullying methods in parliament. Lastly he abandoned MP-GRC yet denies it with a straight face.
Aka gaslighting.
You tell grads to upskill, hustle, and lower expectations etc, but the job goes to someone with cheaper salary expectations and no NS liability

People start to look early precisely because they expect that vacancies will be fewer. So the explanation given by the minister has the logic backwards.
Can minister also talk about the number of graduates that are being employed for short term contract jobs? It's getting ridiculous. Having to renew contract every few months and then be told "sorry, we cannot renew your contract anymore/have reached the limit of renewing" is the new norm now
I never understood this "limit of renewing contract", even MNCs somehow has this practice (3 years where I'm at now). But they just ask the person take a month break then invite them on contract again. Like that what's the point? Clearly they need the manpower but they don't want to hire perm to save costs?
