The NUS president threw a bit of a tantrum when someone who's supposed to have a meeting with him didn't turn up and cited "oh today my wfh day" or something along those lines. In a fit of Draconian anger, he then enforced this 5 days WFO arrangement on the entire university.
yea sounds plausible lol. donβt know a single person at NUS that respects tan eng chye. many dumb decisions and scandals started once he took over
Ex-NUS staffer here. The administration is full of out of touch dinosaurs who refuse to change with the times. All theyβre focused on is gaming the QS university rankings.
I 100% agree with this. So happy I just left. Dinos indeed; they function like old people wagging their fingers telling everyone that reputation is deeply important then go do shady shit like these inscrutable and morally ambiguous HR practices like that. Disgusting. Canβt believe I was both a student and staff. I would also like to throw in very briefly but sharply that I was only 3-6 months in and already I saw how - fragmented the comms was, finding out info from people I should least expect to find out info from - inflexible they were with implementation of plans - opaque they were with their decision-making Orange and blue, down with you. π π΅ππΏ
Surprisingly regressive for a local institute of higher learning to be mandating WFO policies, particularly when flexible work arrangements has become a perk most workers would look out for. Ironically NTU even published a small op-ed on how mandated WFO isn't going to work. https://www.ntu.edu.sg/business/news-events/news/story-detail/why-mandatory-office-time-isn-t-going-to-work
I don't get this antiquated need to have everyone be at the office everyday. It's so old-school and unnecessary. Can't wait for boomers to stop being at the top. I don't agree with 5 days WFH, but 5 days WFO in this day and age (especially IF your work is done on a laptop) is crazy.
yeah even a single WFH on Monday (so no monday blue) or Wed (so you got a "break" at home every 2 days) would work so much better for wellbeing
