As per title. It surprises me for a nation that prides in being so efficient and technology advanced, we are lacking Malaysia on this front. KSL/Southkey and most of carpark that I have gone to in malaysia, they accept credit card. Meanwhile after implementing sg parking app which supports credit card, actual gantry ones still make you go top up (which supports credit card) then go pay with cashcard. Any idea why?
Have you seen the abomination that is ERP2.0 that took several years to implement and it’s still shit? Bloated bureaucracy and no political will to push through innovation. Don’t perform can still get bonus, why do more

Credit card payment processing companies take a flat minimum fees and some variable percentage fee. The flat minimum eats up alot of the cost for low value transactions. The way we get around this is by topping up the Nets / flashpay / whatever card with larger amounts of money at a time. That reduces the actual percentage of the fees.
But when they do it at the top up station, it is still being charged right?
Yes but like I said, it’s a flat minimum fee for ANY transaction. The amount is usually around a few cents per transaction, depending on which payment processor you use. If your parking is $1.20, you pay let’s say $0.09 on the flat fee, that’s 7.5% of your payment going to the flat minimum fee. If you charge $100 to the nets card, you pay $0.09 on the flat fee, now that’s only 0.09% of your payment going to the flat minimum fee. So it’s better to bundle all the “parking transactions” together into one single big payment, you pay the credit card company less.
